Released debian 9.6 with some major improvements

Over the past weekend, Debian announced the availability of Debian 9.6, the sixth maintenance release since Debian 9 was released in June 2017. The new update means users can use new installation images with the latest updates included, which is very useful if you plan to install Debian on an offline machine.

Debian is pleased to announce the sixth update of its stable Debian 9 “stretch” distribution. This knit version mainly adds fixes for security issues, along with some tweaks for serious issues. The security notices have already been published separately and are mentioned when available.
Some notable packages that received bug fixes include cargo, a Rust language component, which was added to support Firefox 60 ESR, which now uses more Rust code , clamav, debian-installer, enigmail, free firmware, gnupg2, grub2, rustc, which is now compatible with the arm64, armel, armhf, i386, ppc64el and s390x, systemd, tor, ublock-origin and wpa architectures. Several more packages got security updates, some notable packages include Chromium-browser, cups, thunderbird, ffmpeg, vlc, linux (kernel), openjdk-8, firefox-esr, and postgresql-9.6.
If you are looking to download the newly released images, you can find them on the Debian Project website . Additionally, the unofficial images that come with the proprietary firmware included in the package have also been updated. These versions are useful if you have discovered that Debian is not compatible with a certain piece of hardware.
