Linux mint 18.1 '' serena '' beta is now available

One of the most used Linux distros of the moment has just released the Linux Mint 18.1 Beta, which comes with the latest Cinnamon 3.2 and MATE 1.16.

The final version of Linux Mint 18.1 will be ready later this month

Linux Mint 18.1 'Serena' enters Beta status with the aim of launching its final version at the end of this December. In this Beta version we can see the exclusive Linux Mint desktop environment, Cinnamon 3.2, with its customizable vertical panels, a redesign of the application menu, more and better visual effects, support for Qt 5.7, greater ease in hardware configuration and a nemo file manager, powered by extensions and with a lower file transfer rate than in the past.

The version with MATE also receives improvements, such as compatibility with GTK + 3 technology, which will greatly help the use of a greater number of applications and their correct operation. Currently the system already has applications created under GTK + 3.22 such as: Engrampa, MATE Nofitication Daemon, MATE Polkit, MATE Session Manager, Pluma and MATE Terminal

In order to use Linux Mint 18.1 we will need the following equipment:

  • 512MB RAM (1GB recommended).9GB of disk space (20GB recommended). Screen with minimum resolution 800 × 600, recommended from 1024 × 768.

Linux Mint 18.1 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with official support until 2021. You can download the corresponding ISO for Linux Mint 18.1 Beta in two flavors, Cinnamon Edition and MATE.
