Liteon presents its new 120, 240 and 480 gb ssd mu3 drives
Table of contents:
It's been a long time since we heard from LiteOn. Some time ago they had MU3 SSDs on the market that used MLC NAND technology. With new technologies, there was an urgent need to renew this series with support for NAND TLC memory, which can offer higher data density at a lower cost, although in theory they would be slower than MLC.
LiteOn MU3 now uses 64-layer TLC memory
LiteOn introduced its latest MU3 line of conventional SSDs. Built in 7mm thick 2.5 inch form factor with 6Gbps SATA interface. The unit implements Toshiba's 64-layer BiCS 3D TLC NAND flash memory, and will come in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities.
At the moment, without price or release date
These new LiteOn drives have sequential transfer speeds of up to 560 MB / s read, and write speeds of up to 500 MB / s. Random access performance reaches 83, 000 IOPS in reading, and write speeds of up to 89, 000 IOPS. These new SSD drives are including NCQ, TRIM, SMART technologies, and a 3-year warranty. LiteOn did not disclose the prices at this time, but knowing the costs of the MU3 series, we can expect really competitive values because TLC is cheaper than MLC to manufacture.
In a dedicated special article, we delved into the differences between MLC vs. TLC storage, which may be of interest to you.
