AMD has recently released a new stable version of its graphics drivers for Linux-based operating systems, with support for various AMD Radeon graphics cards.

The new AMDGPU-PRO 17.10 driver arrives just over two months after the release of the AMDGPU-PRO 16.60 version, which added support for AMD Radeon HD 7xxx / 8xxx graphics cards. However, this new version seems to add support for Canonical's latest operating system, Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (Xenial Xerus), although only for the 64-bit version.

Support for CentOS 7.3 / 6.8, RHEL 7.3 / 6.8, SLED / SLES 12 SP2 and Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS

In the new version, AMD has fixed several major problems, such as system boot failures on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 platforms when using Display Port 1.2, as well as various screen corruptions that occurred during a system restart if the AMD's performance mode was manually modified.

The AMDGPU-PRO Driver 17.10 graphics driver is now available for download and supports the following operating systems (64-bit only): Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 and 6.8, CentOS 7.3 and 6.8, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and Server 12 Service Pack 2, and Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.

In addition, it also has support for OpenGL 4.5 and GLX 1.4, OpenCL 1.2 and Vulkan 1.0, as well as for VDPAU APIs.

The new controller also provides basic functions for power and display management, as well as support for KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) and ADF (Atomic Display Framework) technologies.

Finally, note that it is also compatible with AMD FirePro and Radeon FreeSync, although it must be remembered that the new version also brings several problems already recognized by the company.
