LG's OLED panels have been a critical and commercial success for the company. The Korean company not only leads the OLED TV market with an estimated share of around 50-60%, but also supplies the panels to other TV manufacturers such as Sony and Panasonic.

LG's new OLED TVs will come with 4K @ 120Hz support and automatic latency control

Before starting CES 2019, LG today announced the first specs and features for its 2019 line of OLED TVs of the year - interesting specs even for gamers.

For starters, TVs will support up to 4K and 120 frames per second thanks to HDMI 2.1 ports that have enough bandwidth (48 Gbps) to exceed the 4K and 60 frames per second limit that those TVs with HDMI 2.0 had.

This year's LG OLED TVs will include two game-specific features:

Variable refresh rate (VRR) and Automatic low latency mode (ALLM). VRR technology would be similar to what FreeSync and G-Sync already do but now implemented on TV and already compatible with Microsoft's Xbox One console. This last feature is exactly what it seems, allowing automatic recognition of the game signal sent to the screen; the TV automatically switches to game mode to provide the lowest possible latency and input delay. Truth be told, both features first appeared on 2018 Samsung QLED TVs, even if they didn't support HDMI 2.1.

The new improved α9 Gen 2 processor, coupled with a deep learning algorithm, can analyze source quality and dynamically determine the best method for optimal visual and audio output. The rescaling process should be much higher on these televisions thanks to this chip.

In addition, LG's new OLED TVs will be able to adjust tone mapping and screen brightness, refining HDR content depending on the ambient light in the room. Similarly, the α9 Gen 2 processor will optimize the audio output based on the type of content and the position of the television in the room.

LG will have its own conference at CES 2019 on January 7, to present these new televisions and other products.
