Intel coffee lake prices soar due to 14nm shortage
Table of contents:
A few weeks ago we commented on the shortage of Coffee Lake processors (14 nm), and that this could cause prices to rise, since it is already happening.
14nm Intel Coffee Lake processors are rising in price
We know that Intel is having problems, not only in the manufacture of chips in 10 nm, also in 14 nm and this is beginning to have an impact on the prices of processors. In the following table, we can see how the prices of different Intel chips have been increasing.
The table of the Dutch site HWI , compares the prices (in euros) of the first day of September with respect to the prices of the past 22, with increases that reach, in some cases, 60%.
Although on average, the increases are between 10 and 30%, there are some cases where the price differences are scandalous. For example, a Core i5 8400 is now 40% more expensive than earlier this month, or the Core i3 8100, which is now 61% more expensive.
These processors are very popular and we see that it is affecting all chips regardless of class. When all Intel processors are averaged, the overall increase is 23% right now.
It seems that the shortage is substantial in the 14nm production lines, which makes us wonder what will happen to the Core 9000 series chips, which are also designed with a 14nm node. Distributors are commenting that there will be a significant shortage of these new processors, especially in the first months of launch.
Intel may be facing another 14nm chip shortage
New information comments that production problems have returned and that Intel is struggling with them again.
