Mars Gaming MM418 is the latest creation of the brand specialized in low-cost gaming products. A mouse with a very personal design and full of RGB LED lighting to give a sensational look. With no less than 12 programmable buttons thanks to the brand's software and a 32000 DPI Pixart optical sensor, it is a very versatile and valid mouse for all types of games. Of course we will see all this in our complete review, so let's get started.
We thank Mars Gaming for giving us this product for analysis.
Mars Gaming MM418 technical features
Unboxing and design
Mars Gaming MM418 comes in a flexible cardboard box of considerable size to be a mouse, with serigraphy in red and black, distinctive colors of the gaming brand. On the main face we have a large photo of the team along with its model and main features, such as RGB lighting and the 32000 DPI sensor.
At the back we have another image of the mouse along with more important information about it, although all in English. But we will have a very complete idea of all its features, something very useful when buying a product without having to visit the page.
We open the box where we find a small piece of paper with a product description and a replacement Teflon surf set for our mouse, a very useful detail in the long term.
Mars Gaming MM418 is one of the best mice of the brand, located just below the MM5 and MM4 in price, although with an optical sensor instead of laser. That is why it makes it a better gaming device and more versatile than mice with laser sensors.
Specifically, this mouse mounts a Pixart 3389PRO optical sensor with a native resolution of 32000 DPI. An excessively high figure that will only be useful for large screen resolutions such as 4K and 5K. In addition, this sensor supports maximum speeds of 400 IPS and accelerations of 50G, something that must be taken into account for the gaming world.
This mouse has a total of 12 programmable buttons with Omron switch for up to 50 million clicks, the favorite figure of mouse manufacturers.
In the upper area we find up to 6 buttons plus the navigation wheel, in addition to an indicator panel of the DPI configuration that we have selected at all times.
The two main buttons have a standard size of about the thickness of a finger, the right one being longer than the left. Right next to the left we have a small button, which, by default, is configured as triple click. Of course we can modify this through the software. This button I do not consider suitable for a sniper mode, since our left finger would already be busy with it, but it can be useful for MMO games.
The wheel has a dotted rubber coating and translucent plastic for lighting. The touch is good, although it is a bit hard and the jumps are quite accentuated.
Behind it, we have two buttons for setting DPI of small size and very practical, so as not to accidentally press them, a design that seems to me very successful in this regard.
In the left side area of Mars Gaming MM418 we have a total of 6 buttons that are also programmable, and no, the round element with the model is not a button. In the upper area we have the two classic navigation buttons of small size, but finished with a very accentuated border at the top. The idea is to have your finger under them to press them, because if we rest on them, they will be uncomfortable and difficult to handle. I consider the design very little ergonomic for my taste.
For its part, the four buttons in the lower area also have a finished edge design facing the bottom. These buttons will be very useful for MMO games where the amount of controls is very important. However, they are not easily accessible either, since they are very close to the ground and the edge finish does not help much. Of course this is under my personal taste.
In the right area we do not have any buttons, but we do have a very comfortable area to support the ring finger of our hand, which, in this case, does give us very good comfort for palm-type grips.
As we can see in these two images that detail the profile of the Mars Gaming MM418, they have a very little inclined design and are quite wide. The entire surface is finished in Rock-grain, which is basically a rough surface that allows us to adhere the hand very well to the mouse, although somewhat prone to wear with use. However, the feel is quite good and pleasant and the grip is very good. It is not an ambidextrous mouse, as we have been able to suppose.
The back has two RGB CHROMA lighting zones, both in the Mars Gaming logo and the zone division border that give this mouse a very beautiful appearance. The curvature is not too steep and ideal for large hands.
Well, in the back of Mars Gaming MM418 we have a total of 3 large surfers built in Teflon that slide quite well. As we already said, the product brings us a set of spare parts for when these are worn, to be able to change them.
If we look closely, we have a central area that, if we turn, we will be able to extract a weight from inside that increases the weight of this equipment from 105 g (verified by ourselves) to 117 grams.
This mouse has a wired connection via USB 2.0 with a 1.8 meter long braided cable.
Grip and sensitivity tests on movement
Mars Gaming MM418 is a mouse that measures 124 x 80 x 38 mm, making it a relatively long and fairly wide mouse, especially in the right area that supports the finger.
Its weight, if cable, is around 105 grams when we remove the weights, and 117 grams when we put them inside. It is an important weight, and it shows just by grasping it. According to the manufacturer, the official weight is 150 g with weights and 140 without them, quite different results from what we have obtained.
This configuration makes it ideal, from our point of view, for a Palm Grip type grip with all types of hands and Claw Grip for large hands that do not disturb the rear area. The tip grip is somewhat more complicated because we lose accessibility to the side controls and the main clicks.
I am going to describe a little the sensations that I have had when using this Mars Gaming MM418. With a hand like mine of 190 x 100 mm, the grip that I find the most is undoubtedly palm type, in which we place our entire hand on the equipment. But also with Claw Grip it handles comfortably and all buttons are reached well, yes the side buttons are somewhat uncomfortable due to the curvature they have and the need to have your finger stuck to the side to handle them well.
It is a large mouse, so the pointed grip is practically ruled out, perhaps this should be taken into account for games in which very fast movements are of great importance.
It is a mouse very comfortable to handle and the rough surface is useful so that the hand does not move from the site. The right side is very comfortable to support the ring finger and handle more firmly.
With such a number of controls it is a mouse that will serve us for FPS games and more for MMO, it feels comfortable on both platforms.
We have carried out the corresponding performance tests for this mouse in which we practically check how the performance of our equipment is on the screen and its precision.
- Variance to movement: with the help of Paint and a physical environment with controlled movements, we have detected acceleration in this mouse. The difference between displacement in fast and slow movements is noticeable and is palpable. Something to keep in mind for Shooter games.
- Pixel skipping: in this case we have not had any type of problems, the precision is very good in practically all conditions, it is not for less with a 32000 DPI sensor. Tracking: We have made quick passes in take-off and landing movements and the pointer has been correctly kept in the expected place, so this aspect is also correct. Even at high speeds, since it supports up to accelerations of 50 G and 10 meters per second Surface performance: of course, being an optical sensor we can handle it very well both on the mat and on the table and glass.
Firmware and configuration
We now turn to see in more detail what the brand's software can offer us. This application is recently created and is also fully adapted in interface and management for this mouse. In fact, to download it, we will have to go to the specific section of our Mars Gaming MM418 mouse.
And the truth is that this is not at all negative, we have an interface completely dedicated to the mouse where it is very easy to navigate and touch options. Absolutely everything is done in the same window without having to navigate through tabs. The design is quite basic, everything is said.
In the left side menu we will have everything related to the customization of the buttons. We just have to display the menu for each button and choose the action we want to configure. To apply the changes, click on the corresponding button located on the lower right.
Just below, we have a button to edit the macros, the operation is similar to mice from other brands. Just save and save.
If we go to the right area, we can identify a few drop-down menus to manage the main performance aspects of our mouse.
In the first one, we can assign the DPI setting that best suits us. We will have up to 6 different jumps. In addition, in the left area we can store up to 3 different profiles to load them when necessary.
In the second menu we will have everything related to the lighting of this mouse, with different animations for its 3 illuminated areas.
In the last section we can also configure the response time, something useful for CPUs with poor performance.
The performance menu will be where we can adjust the mouse sensitivity, wheel speed and double click speed. The operation is quite simple and the changes will be applied directly when modifying them.
The higher the sensitivity, the faster the mouse will go, even with the same DPI settings. If we disable the precision enhancement the mouse will also be more sensitive to plane changes.
After doing a few tests plotting a square with Paint, I find a good balance with medium sensitivity and precision enhancement turned on to work in graphic design. On the other hand, the best thing to play is to turn off the precision boost and keep the sensitivity at just over half the bar.
Final words and conclusion about Mars Gaming MM418
The experience with this Mars Gaming MM418 has been pretty good in virtually every way. It is a mouse with a beautiful, original and above all comfortable design, although the finishes are improvable. The abundant lighting areas give it a very good look and the rough finish also feels great. Although we doubt the durability of it with the hours of use.
The Pixart 3389PRO sensor is quite good, with excellent performance except in the acceleration section, which does have some variation between slow and fast movements . In the other tests it is correct.
For its part, the touch of the buttons is somewhat rigid and hard, especially that of the navigation wheel. It is a fairly stiff and not very agile wheel, but the jumps are well marked and the performance is good. The 12 programmable buttons are very useful to pay open world RPG games in which there are quite a few actions to configure.
We also recommend our guide to the best mice on the market
Precisely for the above, due to the small acceleration and because it is a somewhat heavy mouse, we see that it is a mouse rather focused on MMO games where acceleration is so important to us and the number of controls, but in FPS I least I have felt quite comfortable. The ideal grip is Palm Grip for almost all but Claw Grip for big big hands.
Of course the fact of having configuration software is very useful, although the interface is somewhat basic, it will help us to identify everything perfectly and make quick modifications. Finally, the price of this Mars Gaming MM418 is only 40 euros, a really adjusted price for a team with good features and design, although the finishes can be improved.
