Earlier this week, Huawei announced its new MateBook D-series laptops, which will be available in 14-inch and 15.6-inch versions, the MateBook D14 and D15, as well as the choice between Intel Comet Lake or AMD Ryzen, and GPU for Geforce MX 250 laptops or Vega graphics inside the Ryzen CPU.

MateBook D14 and D15 unveiled with Intel Comet Lake and AMD Ryzen CPUs

Both the MateBook D14 and MateBook D15 share the same sleek design, with aluminum chassis and slim bezels. The difference is in the size of the screen, and therefore the size of the laptop itself, and some other minor details.

The MateBook D14 measures 322.5 × 214.8 × 15.9mm and weighs 1.38kg. It comes with a 14-inch IPS FHD (1920 × 1080) screen, with a brightness of just 250 nits and a contrast ratio of 800: 1. The MateBook D15 is not far behind as it measures 357.8 × 229.9 × 16.9mm and weighs 1.62kg. It comes with the same panel, but in a size of 15.6 inches, which means it will have a slightly lower pixel density.

There is a choice between Intel Core i5-10210U or Core i7-10510U and the Ryzen 5 3500U. While it's nice to finally see an AMD Ryzen CPUs on some laptops, it's pretty surprising that Huawei didn't offer the Ryzen 7 3700U or any other Ryzen CPUs as an option, at least in the 15.6-inch version. Both options can be combined with 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD (for D15) or 512GB SSD (for smaller D14) storage options.

Intel CPUs come paired with an Nvidia Geforce MX 250 graphics, a Pascal-based laptop GPU with 384 CUDA cores, which typically features 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The Ryzen 5 3500U option uses Radeon Vega 8 graphics within the CPU, with 8 CUs for a total of 512 SP.

According to the details provided by Huawei, the MateBook D14 and D15 should go on sale in China from December 12, and there is no news of its arrival in other markets at the moment. Fortunately, Honor, the sub-brand of Huawei, closely follows the company and will possibly offer its own versions, called MagicBook, for the rest of the world.
