A few days ago we informed you about Matrox and its collaboration with Nvidia to build new graphics cards to power the 'videowalls', but at that time we did not know many details. Now Matrox is making the announcement of the D-series graphics cards, which is the result of this alliance with the green company.

Matrox Announces Its D-Series Graphics In Collaboration With Nvidia

Matrox has announced its D series graphics cards powered by Nvidia Quadro GPUs, which will have support for screens up to 20K resolution.

The main selling point for these graphics cards is that each unit can control four 4K displays, and when four of the D-series GPUs are inserted into a system, up to sixteen 4K displays can be controlled at 60 FPS. However, the DisplayPort variant can drive a few more pixels at 5K per screen.

Matrox also noted that you can choose to use its QuadHead2Go adapters, and while you will need sixteen of them for the full figure, it means that you will be able to divide the sixteen outputs into 64 outputs to handle 64 Full HD displays instead of sixteen 4K units.

In any case, the mathematics add up to a total of 15, 360 x 8, 640 pixels, that is, a resolution of 16K for the HDMI variant, or 20, 480 x 12, 800 (20K) if the DisplayPort card is used.

The graphics cards are inserted in a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot, and they have a very minimal power consumption of only 47 W. The memory is provided by 4 GB of GDDR5 DRAM, although no information has been provided on the number of cores of GPUs or clock speeds. However, these are not graphics cards for video games, but rather for multi-screen video playback.

Graphics cards for D-series video walls are available for Matrox business customers in early Q2 2020.
