Microsoft edge will be replaced by a chromium-based browser
Table of contents:
Microsoft did not just hit the web browser key. Although Internet Explorer became the most widely used browser in the world, it also became the most unpopular. Redmond tried to part ways with the legacy with Microsoft Edge, and now it looks like Microsoft is ready to throw in the towel, and create a new browser around the same rendering engine used by rival Google Chrome.
Microsoft Edge could have its days numbered
Microsoft tried to get rid of Internet Explorer in the easiest way possible. He started from scratch to create a browser and rendering engine, EdgeHTML, which he claims is designed to be fast, light and secure. Microsoft was barely able to achieve those goals, and it spent its time on marketing campaigns to at least encourage performance. Commits to Chromium, the open source base on which Google Chrome is built, hints that Microsoft may be switching to a new browser based on the same bases.

This would clearly be a victory for both users and Google. Users would get the same experience in Microsoft's new web browser, which they would get if they were using Chrome, there could even be a possibility that they also have access to the same extensions. For Google, this means effectively expanding its reach, even if it had a different name.
That raises the question of what form this browser would take. There are still plenty of unanswered questions regarding branding and limitations, but if all of this ends up being met, Microsoft Edge is practically dead. What do you think of Microsoft's decision to abandon Edge in favor of a new Chromium-based browser? Are you an Edge user? What do you think of the browser? We want to know your opinion.
