Microsoft tries to force email users to open links on edge

Microsoft is testing a new facet in the early versions of Windows 10 Redstone 5 that will arrive later this year. It turns out that regardless of the browser you use, Windows 10 will open all the links in the Mail application emails in the Edge browser.

No matter which browser you have selected as default, it will always open links in Edge

Starting with Windows 10 Build 17623 "Redstone 5", a change began that will make Edge the default browser for reading email links. The decision is not final, and Microsoft has not even released the current version of "Redstone 4", informally known as the Spring Creators Update.

Under the new rules, it doesn't matter which browser you have selected as the default; If you use the basic Mail app on Windows, any link you click will open Edge. Outlook will apparently open the links using the default browser, as always.

Microsoft has always been very open to these kinds of decisions, such as the time I try to make Edge and Bing the default applications to open Cortana's search links. With a market share of just under 4%, it's fair to say that the market has spoken, and against the Edge browser, which hardly anyone uses.

Just as Microsoft always makes controversial decisions, it is also true that it tends to listen to the community and rectify very easily, so chances are that if Windows 10 users make themselves heard, Microsoft will step back with this.
