Microsoft improves hardware security with '' tpm 2.0 ''

Microsoft is focusing its efforts on improving security on those computers and devices that make use of Windows 10 as an operating system, implementing the use of TPM 2.0, a new version of the Trusted Platform Module that improves security at the hardware level.

Increased hardware security with Microsoft TPM 2.0

Starting on July 28, Microsoft will implement the use of TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) as an essential requirement for those devices that are going to make use of Windows 10, such as PCs, tablets and smart mobile phones.

The Microsoft- imposed TPM standard has been there for years and provides an additional layer of security at the hardware level by managing and storing cryptographically encrypted keys. The implementation of the new TPM 2.0 could mean greater security when authenticating on Windows 10 computers such as computers, applications and Web services. For example, Windows Hello - a technique for logging in using facial recognition, fingerprint, or iris recognition - could be used in conjunction with encryption keys on TPM chips to authenticate users.

The TPM requirement "will be enforced through our Windows hardware certification program.." Microsoft said in a blog, so from July 28 all computers and devices must carry TPM 2.0 if they want to be certified officially.

One of the details that have been clarified regarding the new security standard, is that it does not apply to Raspberry Pi 3 devices with Windows 10 IoT Core, the well-known reduced version of the Windows 10 operating system.
