Microsoft works on a fully modular xbox elite 2 controller

A U.S. patent application (US1012424249) from Microsoft for the upcoming Xbox Elite 2 controller, the successor to the world's most advanced video game controller, has been discovered online. Although this controller retains the familiar form of the Xbox One controller, it features a new fully modular and interchangeable design.

With the new Microsoft-patented controller, users will be able to remove the analog and D-pad and replace it with another module or vice versa. Doubling the customization available with the original Elite controller.

This customization capability would be equaling the recently released Astro C40 TR for the PlayStation 4. The C40 TR costs $ 200, which is more expensive even compared to the current Xbox Elite.

Microsoft's next driver technology includes an electronic input sensor and a redesigned mounting platform. Leaks earlier this year show what these new modular mounting platforms can look like.

Rumors about the Elite 2 controller have been going around for a while. In fact, some thought it was going to debut at E3 2018. However, it appears that the company has been waiting for the blessing of the United States patent office. Hence the delay in launch. More than three years have passed since the first Xbox Elite controller was released, with great success and reception by the most professional gamers on consoles.

In addition to the modular and customizable appearance of accessories, this Xbox Elite 2 controller allegedly also uses a USB-C connector. This is a variation on the micro-USB connector used by Xbox One. However, the device also supposedly comes with a MagSafe-type connector for USB-C. So it would load automatically when saved.
