Microsoft works on a new smartphone with windows 10

Microsoft is rumored to be planning a full reboot of its mobile division that would include a dramatic overhaul of its Windows 10 Mobile platform, as well as a new device that will bring the company closer to its strongest rivals, such as Samsung and Apple.

The Windows 10 Mobile operating system would be based on Composable or CShell, so we would have a completely new and redesigned system with respect to what there is right now.

Microsoft watcher Brad Sams says the software giant is already working on a "mobile" device and is also already being used on the Microsoft campus.

At the moment the details of this new smartphone are unknown, but it is believed that it will compete in the high-end as the Lumia range did in the past.

Interestingly, it is Alex Kipman, who is currently spearheading the HoloLens project, who is behind this reboot of all Windows 10 Mobile, so it could be indicative of Microsoft betting on artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology in this new phone.

The new device will be premium and expensive, but not as expensive as the HoloLens. Microsoft seems to be tempted to adopt a strategy similar to what it did with Surface and position the new mobile device as a Premium product.

There's a good chance the new device will run Windows 10 on an ARM chip and be CShell-based, although Sams claims that the new shell is at a very early version right now and it still has a lot of work to do.
