Silicon Motion had announced in August the new ultra high speed consumer PCIe NVMe SSD drivers, these were the SM2262EN, SM2262, SM2262, SM2263 and SM2263XT. Well, it has been too long for the first SSD to use these drivers to be announced, the Teclast Mirage NP900.

Taipower Teclast Mirage NP900 NVMe SSD

Taipower's new Mirage NP900 NVMe SSD is the first consumer product to use the latest Silicon Motion drivers. This will allow you to obtain quite high data transfer speeds.

We do not expect this particular SSD to be available in large quantities outside of Asia. However, the Mirage NP900 allows us to take a look at the performance of the SM2262 controller. Thanks to the controller, we can take a look at the speeds that can be achieved in reading and writing data. In sequential read the Mirage NP900 reaches about 2685 MB / s and the write speeds reach up to 1695 MB / s. The unit also hits 370, 000 random read IOPS.

It is only a matter of time for Silicon Motion partners such as Adata, Intel, Micron / Crucial and SanDisk / Western Digital to start implementing these drivers in the new SSD units that will arrive during 2018. Offering ever higher transfer speeds (We also hope with more grounded prices).

With CES 2018 coming soon, we may have a lot of news in this field. We will keep you informed.
