MSI B450 Tomahawk and MSI B450-A PRO are two new motherboards designed with the mid-range chipset that arrives with the second generation AMD Ryzen processors, we are talking about the B450.

MSI B450 Tomahawk is the more advanced of the two new boards designed for the AMD mid-range, it is a proposal with a 6 + 1 phase VRM power and four slots for DDR4 memories in dual channel configuration and in a quantity up to 64 GB, more than enough to meet the needs of all users. Its features continue with two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, one of them reinforced in steel, three PCIe 2.0 x1 slots for expansion cards, one M.2 32 Gb / s port and four SATA III 6.0 Gbps ports for large doses of storage or an optical drive.

The back features two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, both Type A and Type C, along with DisplayPort DVI and HDMI ports for the multitude of APUs. We detected five fan connectors one RGB port for LED fixtures, which implies compatibility with MSI's Mystic Light software. There's also a BIOS Flashback + button on the I / O panel for out-of-band motherboard firmware updates. The motherboard also comes equipped with a single LAN port.

We go down one step and we find the MSI B450-A PRO, a model that has been designed to be cheaper than the previous one, for this the cooling of the VRM and the chipset has been simplified, so it will be less recommended for overclcok and the most powerful processors. It maintains the same 6 + 1 phase VRM and all slots except DVI which has been swapped for a VGA and USB-C has been removed.

Both boards have heatsinks in the VRM and the chipset, something that does not happen with the Intel Coffee Lake mid-range platform and its B360 chipset. We are used to AMD motherboards always offering something more, remember that the B450 chipset also allows overclocking.
