According to several sources close to Canonical, the founder of Ubuntu Linux, in a short time Microsoft will allow users to run this Linux distribution on Windows 10.

With this new possibility, Ubuntu users will be able to run this distribution simultaneously with Windows, and will not have to do it in a virtual machine, but as an integral part of Windows 10.

More details in Windows BUILD 2016

According to the ZDnet portal, all the details related to the new agreement between Microsoft and Canonical will be revealed during a keynote that Microsoft will celebrate today during the BUILD event.

Anyway, it seems that this new collaboration is aimed at developers, so it seems unlikely that Ubuntu's Unity interface will be included.

"Ubuntu is unlikely to integrate the Unity interface. Instead, all the attention will be on Bash and other CLI tools (command line interface), such as Make, Gawk and Grep ” , points out the web portal indicated above.

The same sources pointed out that both Canonical and Microsoft are doing this because the developers are the ones that have most requested this possibility. Specifically, as companies continue to work closely on cloud-focused projects , they are likely to push to develop software for Ubuntu on Microsoft's Azure platform.

The Microsoft BUILD event begins today, March 30 , at the San Francisco Moscone Center and will end on April 1.
