NAND Flash, Income grows in the last quarter of 2019

On the supply side, contract prices recovered successfully due to the shortage caused by the power outage at the Kioxia production base in Yokkaichi in June. In sum, the income of the last quarter of 2019 reached 12.5 trillion dollars, an 8.5% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

4Q19 performance was stronger than expected on the demand side, helping to improve supplier inventory to normal levels. In response, NAND vendors were able to reduce their wafer market allocations and instead focus on shipping products with higher profit margins.

In 1Q20, the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak may have an impact on the consumer electronics supply chain, including smartphones and NBs. This means that the total quarterly bit send is projected to record a minor decline or flat trend. Even so, this can be offset by the large increase in prices, so NAND flash revenues are expected to remain at least at the same level as in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Samsung, Sk Hynix and Kioxia have also had growth compared to the same period of the previous year. Western Digital is one that did better with a 12% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. Finally, Micron had a respective increase of 18%.
