For every user who subscribes to Netflix using their iTunes account, the streaming service has to pay Apple a commission. But it seems that the company is tired of it. They want all the profit to go to their coffers, so they block subscriptions that come through iTunes. Since the company has to pay a commission of 30% in its first year and 15% in the following ones.

Netflix does not allow subscriptions through iTunes to avoid giving Apple commission

A few months ago they already eliminated the option to make payments through Google Play, and they are now following the same line with users arriving from iTunes.

Netflix vs. Apple

At the moment the first tests are being carried out, with which Netflix wants to avoid having to pay Apple. They are taking place in a total of 33 countries worldwide. The countries where tests are carried out are Spain, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Peru, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand.

The final decision has not yet been made. But if the tests go well, this is very likely going to happen, so Netflix would take all the benefit of subscriptions. Although everything indicates that Apple will not be entirely happy.

So we will see how this story evolves. No dates have been given for the end of these tests, so I'm sure that in these weeks we hear more about this.
