The Nintendo Switch has surpassed the GameCube in total sales achieved by the devices. Nintendo sold 3.19 million units of its hybrid console in the last quarter, bringing the total figure to 22.86 million. The GameCube, by comparison, made $ 21.74 million in its six-year life.

However, the Japanese game developer has some hits planned for the holiday season. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a fighting game that features almost every character in the Nintendo catalog. It will join the adorable and friendly Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, working in tandem with the immensely popular mobile game Pokémon Go. The system will also benefit from a number of smaller third-party releases like Transistor, Guacamelee 2, and Diablo 3.
