The FanlessTech media have shared a photo of what is said to be the next Intel Ghost Canyon NUC mini PC that would arrive in early 2020. However, this system is expected to have some form of active cooling within its 5-liter frame..

Intel Ghost Canyon, a NUC with PCI Express x16 slot for 2020

According to the source, the new NUC Intel Ghost Canyon will be based on an Intel Coffee Lake HR processor with up to 8C / 16T and up to 45W. Users will have the advantage of a range of modern connectivity options, including three HDMI 2.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, and M.2 storage. The star, however, may be the PCIe x16 slot for a discrete graphics card within this compact PC. Obviously, there must be room inside the chassis for the optional discrete graphics card, and therefore this chassis is significantly larger than the 1.2-liter Intel Hades Canyon, and the 'traditional' 0.7-liter NUC designs of volume.

There are at least three NUCs planned with hybrid graphics support (Intel UHD plus your choice of PCIe x16 graphics card). TechPowerUp speculated that the PCIe x16 option would have to be in the form of an MXM slot, but since the 5-liter chassis surely provides space for a desktop card. At 30 cm long, a 2.5-slot graphics card has a volume of 1.2 liters. However, this NUC cannot be 30 cm deep, as it would be disproportionately thin to form the 5-liter box as shown in the image. Rather it will be 20 cm x 20 cm x 12.5 cm or something similar.

That might be enough to fit a 170mm long graphics card, like the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC 8G.
