It seems that Nvidia believes that there are not enough graphics card models on the market, its latest occurrence has been to launch a new version of the GeForce GT 1030, with DDR4 memory, which dramatically reduces its bandwidth.

GeForce GT 1030 now with DDR4 memory

Nvidia already confused us a long time ago with the GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB and 3 GB, which, in addition to memory, differ slightly in the number of CUDA Cores. To further confuse users, they have released a new variant of the GT 1030 with DDR4 memory, replacing the GDDR5 of the original model.

We recommend reading our post about Nvidia GT 1030 Review in Spanish (Complete analysis)

This new GeForce GT 1030 with DDR4 memory offers a bandwidth of only 16 GB / s, much less than the 48 GB / s that GDDR5 memory allows, with its 64-bit interface. This supposes a reduction in the bandwidth of 66.6%, reason why the yield of the new variant will be clearly inferior.

Tom's Hardware discovered the change with the Gigabyte GT 1030 2GD4 LP OC, where the 2GD4 represents the use of DDR4 memory. Later it was also discovered that Palit manufactured a GT 1030 with a DDR4 buffer, although the model in question did not mention the use of this memory in its model name. A feature of the Nvidia GT 1030 DDR4 variant is a 10W drop in the TDP, with 20W power consumption compared to 30W in the version with GDDR5 memories.
