Intel today unveiled a variant of the Intel Optane 905p SSD with a storage capacity of 1.5TB, which is the highest-capacity mass storage medium using this technology.

Intel Optane 905p Now Available in 1.5TB Versions, Full Details

Intel Optane 905p implements 3D XPoint memory technology, which has been jointly created by Intel and Micron to replace traditional NAND. The unit comes in two formats shaped like a half-height PCI-Express 3.0 x4 card, and a 15-inch-thick 2.5-inch form factor with U.2 interface. Both variants offer sequential transfer speeds of up to 2, 600 MB / s read, with up to 2, 200 MB / s write speed.

Random access speeds reach 575, 000 IOPS in read and up to 550, 000 IOPS in write. The resistance for these units is estimated at 27.37 PB of written data, making them ideal for environments where large amounts of data need to be written each day. Drives retain their sibling's feature set with less capacity, including native 256-bit AES encryption.

3D XPoint memory has several advantages over traditional NAND, the most significant being lower data access latency, and much greater resistance, so that it is able to withstand an enormous amount of written data without wearing out. 3D XPoint also offers much more stable read and write speed rates than NAND, whose speed drops significantly in less than ideal conditions.

For now, the price of this 1.5TB Intel Optane 905p model has not been announced, although it will not be exactly cheap.
