SD Association has announced a new memory card specification that will allow us to store about 128 TB of data on a single SD card. The new specification will increase the maximum storage on SD cards to 128 terabytes with faster transfer speeds of 985 megabytes per second.

According to The Verge , the new faster speeds, called SD Express, will hit all types of cards, but the increased storage capacity is something entirely new and will be called the SD Ultra Capacity (SDUC) card. Given the slow progress towards 2TB cards, it is unknown how long it will take for manufacturers to reach the highest numbers allowed by SDUC, but perhaps the increase in storage capacity and the move to resolution videos. 4K increasingly common, give companies more reason to invest in more storage capacity.
Currently, the maximum storage space on an SD card is 2TB and that capacity has not yet been reached on a memory card. This new standard is likely to accelerate the increase in capabilities.

SanDisk said the technology was necessary to adapt to the increasingly heavy formats of data, such as 4K video and VR. SanDisk currently sells a 512GB card for around $ 299.
