Asus took advantage of IFA 2017 to announce a good number of new devices of all kinds, one of the most interesting was the Asus RT-AX88U router that stands out mainly for the inclusion of the advanced 802.11ax WiFi connectivity protocol.

Asus RT-AX88U is the first with WiFi 802.11ax

The WiFi 802.11ax specification will not be finalized or published until 2019 but this does not prevent the premature launch of devices that implement it, something that has already happened previously in other revisions of the 802.11 protocol. Asus RT-AX88U comes to market as the first router with support for the new WiFi 802.11ax standard, giving you the ability to achieve an unprecedented transfer rate of up to 5952 Mbps.

Asus RT-AX88U is a 4 × 4 MIMO router that operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, reaching transfer rates in these of 1148 Mbps and 4804 Mbps respectively. To achieve this Asus has opted for a Qualcomm silicon compatible with WiFi 802.11ax. The inclusion of Qualcomm's new chipset offers compatibility with OFDMA, which promises to help reduce interference when used in a highly wave-heavy environment, and NU-MIMO.

MU-MIMO in Wifi AC connections: detailed explanation

This new router allows to achieve a transfer rate 4 times higher than that achieved by WiFi 802.11ac technology, making it ideal for viewing high definition content in an environment with a large number of connected devices and feeding on the same network. It also includes TWT technology to reduce unnecessary connections, thereby reducing power consumption and improving the battery life of portable devices.

Price has not been announced.
