Vega Frontier Edition is the latest graphics card released by AMD for the professional sector, a model that stands out for the use of a core with the Vega 10 architecture, which will be the company's most powerful silicon until the arrival of Navi. Thanks to PCPer and Linus Tech Tips we have new data on their performance in video games.

Vega Frontier Edition, gaming performance

At a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels the Vega Frontier Edition shows excellent performance by achieving a performance very similar to that of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti in Fallout 4, it is even capable of outperforming the Nvidia card in some points. Unfortunately the rest of the tests are not so favorable for a card that reaches the GeForce GTX 1070 in Grand Theft Auto V and somewhat higher than this in The Witcher 3, Hitman and Dirt Rally.

AMD prepares the Radeon Pro WX 9100 with a Vega core

By raising the resolution to 4K, the Vega Frontier Edition stays just 3 FPS from the GTX 1080 in Dirt Rally, 7 FPS from it in Fallout 4 and achieves 66% of the performance of the GeForce GTX 1080 in Grand Theft Auto V. On the other hand in Hitman and The Witcher 3 it achieves approximately 83% of the performance of the GeForce GTX 1080.

These results may seem very disappointing for Vega but let's not forget that the Vega Frontier Edition is not a card optimized for games, for this we will have to wait for the Radeon RX Vega that surely are capable of giving significantly higher FPS in video games. The Vega Frontier Edition's power consumption has been approximately 280W, a very high figure for the performance it has offered but remember that games are not your territory.
