New data from the ram ddr5 memory that will arrive in the coming years
Table of contents:
DDR5 memory is the natural successor to DDR4 and will bring great improvements including twice the bandwidth and density compared to the current generation DDR4.
DDR5 memory would arrive in 2019
JEDEC, the standardization body responsible for DDR specifications, states that the frequencies of these new memories will start at approximately DDR5-4800 MHz, a figure that is twice the base speed of DDR4 memory that is stable at 2400 MHz. The new DDR5 memory is expected to support data rates of up to 6.4 Gb / s with a maximum bandwidth of 51.2 GB / s, a significant improvement over 3.2 Gb / s and 25.6 GB / s of the current DDR4.
RAM will increase its price by 40% until the end of the year
The new version will push the 64-bit link to 1.1V and the 16-bit burst lengths from 1.2V and 8-bit. In addition, DDR5 will allow voltage regulators to be mounted on the memory modules themselves rather than on the motherboard as is the case today. CPU vendors are expected to expand the number of DDR channels on their processors from 12 to 16, which could lead to main memory sizes up to 128GB instead of today's 64GB.
In this regard, Rambus Vice President of Product Marketing Hemant Dhulla said the following:
“As far as we know, we are the first to have functional DDR5 DIMM chipsets in the laboratory. We are looking forward to 2019 mass production, and we want to be the first to put it on the market to help our partners get the technology up and running. ”
The bad thing is that the initial prices of the DDR5 will be very high, especially if we take into account the escalation that is taking place with the prices of the DDR4 that has been fully established in the market for years.
