New teams with kaby lake and intel optane coming soon

Intel Optane promises to be a new revolution in the computing world that will leave current NAND Flash memory-based SSDs in its infancy. Optane's high speed and low latency allow it to be used as storage as well as cache and main system memory.

Lenovo and Intel already work on new ThinkPad computers with Optane memory

If everything Intel says is implemented, we could finally have a solution in Optane that, in addition to storage, can make the RAM function of the system without hardly penalizing performance. Lenovo will be the first manufacturer to put new computers on the market with the new technology, it will be with the new ThinkPad computers that will include an Optane-based storage unit with a size of 16 GB and an M.2 interface. This drive will have the function of acting as a cache to greatly accelerate the performance of more traditional SSDs installed on the same computer. This launch would mark the debut of Intel's Stony Beach platform.

The Intel Kaby Lake platform will be the first to include support for Intel's new memory technology, an arrival date has not been given for the new Lenovo ThinkPad that include it, but we do know that we will see the first Kaby Lake computers in January. The current Optane chips are limited to a dual-layer configuration with a capacity of 16 GB, something that still leaves them far from being the replacement for the NAND Flash.
