When VESA announced its Adaptive-Sync standard, Nvidia was understandably reluctant to get on board. They have already offered G-Sync, a competition-like variable refresh rate (VRR) standard that required display manufacturers to meet exacting standards.

New monitors add to Nvidia's G-Sync certification

Not all variable refresh rate monitors are created equal. There are plenty of low-quality FreeSync / Adaptive-Sync monitors, making Nvidia not compliant with the standard until very recently. With this support came the “G-Sync Compatible” certification process, which Nvidia uses to highlight the best Adaptive Sync monitors on the market, revealing the best FreeSync / Adaptive Sync monitors available.

With the launch of Nvidia's RTX 2080 SUPER, the company released its GeForce 431.60 driver. This driver includes support for three new G-Sync compatible monitors. These displays include the HP 24x, AOC AG272FCX6, and AOC AG272FG3R.

Nvidia's official list of G-Sync compatible displays can currently be viewed at this link on Nvidia's own site.

All Adaptive-Sync monitors can be forced to work with G-Sync within Nvidia drivers, but non-certified displays are not guaranteed to provide gamers with a great viewing experience.

Creating its G-Sync compatibility certifications enables Nvidia to embrace VESA Adaptive-Sync while convincing consumers that G-Sync is the superior variable update rate standard. We will see if they can achieve it, AMD FreeSync is having a great advantage in this regard.
