Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has spoken about the huge demand for graphics cards globally due to the cryptocurrency boom, admitting that the company is frustrated that developers and gamers cannot access their GeForce.
Nvidia can't keep the stock of graphics cards for gamers
Yesterday, Nvidia restocked its stock of Founders Edition models in its UK store, this stock sold out almost immediately, showing the high accumulated demand for GeForce products. Jensen admitted that keeping graphics cards on the market for gamers is a real challenge, saying they have to build a lot more and that the video supply chain is working very hard to address the problem.

One of the main problems preventing AMD and Nvidia from making enough cards is the availability of GDDR5, GDDR5X and HBM2 memory. Currently, the world is experiencing a shortage of NAND and DDR4 thanks to the increasing popularity of smartphones, which has led manufacturers to withdraw resources from the memory used by GPUs towards the production of DDR4 and NAND.
It is clear that Nvidia and AMD cannot solve their problems by creating more GPU arrays, as other supply chain problems impede production. Silicon wafers have also seen price increases in recent quarters, which has once again made things difficult, contributing in part to rising graphics card prices.
While the demand for cards by miners is not as high as it was in early 2018, things are clearly far from normal. Later this year, DRAM prices are expected to decline, thanks to the opening of new production facilities from various NAND manufacturers, which in turn will have a knock-on effect on the availability of GDDR5 / HBM2 memory.
