Nvidia has made a modification to the license agreement of its GeForce drivers, specifically a line has been added that prohibits the use of this software in data centers, with the only exception of those dedicated to cryptocurrency mining.

Nvidia puts a brake on the use of the Titan series in data centers

This modification would have come after the announcement of the new Nvidia GeForce Titan V graphics card, which makes use of the same Volta architecture that we can find in cards like the Tesla V100, which have a sale price more than three times higher. With this situation, it is to be expected that there were many data centers that opted for the use of the Titan V instead of the much more expensive cards from the Tesla and Quadro series, something that Nvidia is not happy about. This modification has an exception in data centers that are dedicated to cryptocurrency mining, in this case the use of GeForce drivers is not prohibited. We emphasize that Nvidia prohibits the use of drivers and not cards, of course, unless you start designing your own drivers it is the same.

Nvidia GTX Titan V has better DirectX 12 support than Pascal

The GeForce Titan V has a sale price of 3, 000 euros, a figure that seems very high but makes it the cheapest Volta-based card on the market and long, as the Tesla V100 far exceeds $ 10, 000.

Both cards are identical in terms of hardware except that the Tesla V100 has 16 GB of HBM2 memory compared to 12 GB of the Titan V, and with a higher bandwidth. In any case, Nvidia offers great support to the data centers due to the use of their Tesla cards, so the bigger ones could not dare to use the Titan V.
