The NZXT CAM program is a very useful tool to take control of our PC. We show you how it works and why we recommend it.

Among the tools we find to monitor and modify PC performance, we find NZXT CAM. Many of you know this brand because it is known for its refrigerations, fans, motherboards and PC cases. However, they are not only dedicated to manufacturing, but also to optimizing. This has been demonstrated with this tool. Do you want to know it?

What is NZXT CAM?

It is a NZXT program with which we can enjoy functions focused on making the most of the brand's components or peripherals. In this case, we have tested version 4.1.1, which comes with the following functions

  • Control the performance of our computer. Monitor temperatures. Know the technical specifications of the equipment. Record the time we use video games. Modify the lighting of our box. Adjust fan speeds. Overclock our chart. Control our power supply. Adjust the audio of the brand devices.

It seems to be a complete application, right? We are going to develop each of the sections of this great software.

How to configure it step by step

Once we are inside the NZXT CAM, we will head to the gear in the upper right corner. We make it visual so that you understand us better.

In the " General " section we can change several options: choose celsius (ºC) or fahrenheit, language, start options or change the interface to dark mode.

Continuing in the " Account " section, we will have to register in NZXT to be able to change our account settings. We will not be able to do anything from the application, we can only click on Manage account and it will redirect us to the brand's website.

The " Overlay " section seems interesting to us because, enabling it, we can see the information of the CPU, RAM, FPS, GPU, the system time, etc. within the game. It is possible to modify the information we want to see, the size of the overlay and its opacity.

In the " Drivers " section, it is possible to have the components of the brand up to date, updating them and observing the version they have. This option is quite good.

" Privacy " is summarized as a single option, which is to allow NZXT CAM to collect our information; basically, provide them with the data that your application collects within our PC.

Finally, we come to the FAQ section, which is a mere redirection to the NZXT website where there is a Troobleshooting or solution of frequent or common problems when we use this tool. If you have any errors, it is always good to access directly without having to search for anything by Google.

Detailed information on our PC

NZXT CAM is perfect to inform us about what specifications our equipment has or about what percentage of CPU, GPU, Hard Disk or RAM is being used. In addition, we can see how much free space we have on our hard drives or the speed of file transfers over the network.

When we open the program we will see this main screen. On the " monitoring " screen we see temperatures, loads, transfers and available size.

As an overview, it's pretty good to start with. However, we have 2 more tabs within this section called " MY PC ".

First, in the " specifications " tab we have all the important information of all our components. We like how it classifies the information, showing it in a very clear and simple way. In this way, we have good information about our PC at our disposal.

Finally, the " Games " tab records the time we have been playing video games. In my case, since I installed it recently, it doesn't register anything because I just installed it.

RGB lighting

As a manufacturer of products with RGB lighting , it offers a lighting section so that we can control the lighting of our box from the PC. In your case, it would be fans and liquid cooling of the brand, being able to modify colors, put profiles

In this section, we can choose a theme to have a lighting that goes accordingly; There is the possibility of adjusting the intensity of the lighting of each component that we have of the brand, as long as it has RGB. Of course, we can also change the colors.

Finally, the lighting of the entire box can be adjusted uniformly with the "main" intensity regulator that is at the top of the whole. All are small details that add to and improve the user experience as a PC configuration program.

Adjustments to consider

Here we would have 3 tabs as in "MY PC", which are: Cooling, Over-acceleration and Power.

Starting with " cooling ", we found several interesting options, such as information about our fans or liquid cooling. Mainly, the section is managed by profiles, having a Master or Main profile that acts in a general way. Besides, each fan has a profile that we can select, such as creating our own personalized one.

Lastly, to say that we see more monitoring of temperatures, but we have new values:

  • Noise of the box, very interesting option to measure the decibels of our PC. RPM or speed of each fan. Processor, GPU, liquid cooling and power supply temperature.

On the other hand, we have the "over acceleration " tab, which allows you to overclock any GPU you have, regardless if it is AMD or Nvidia. I have to say that it reminds me of MSI Afterburner in that we can see the clock, its memory and we can modify the values in the same way as the MSI application.

Personally, it seems perfect to me because I quite like MSI Afterburner and the idea of having a single program like NZXT CAM that can do the same thing as 3 separate programs… I think it's great.

Ending with NZXT CAM, we find the " Food " tab. Here we can see the energy that our PC consumes and the temperature of our power supply. We can also see how long our computer has been on.

In the first row, along with the temperature, we see the voltage that the 3 rails of 3.3V, 5V and 12V are using. At the end of the day is information that can be useful to the user.

Audio

It is a new section that the brand has included in version 4.1.0 and that supports the new line of NZXT audio products , specifically its headphones and mixer. In this way, it closely resembles what Logitech or Razer have been doing with their range of peripherals and software.

Apparently, we have a brand on the market ready to offer its own ecosystem: it's called NZXT and it hasn't started badly.

Conclusions about NZXT CAM

After fiddling around a bit with NZXT CAM, we've seen the ins and outs of what appears to be a new ecosystem in the computing industry. Until now, Razor, Steelseries, Logitech and Corsair were the only brands offering a strong and solid ecosystem. NZXT ceases to be a loose product brand to become a manufacturer offering its own ecosystem, and it's nothing at all.

Personally, this software is the best that we have tested in Professional Review. NZXT is a brand that takes great care of design, offering clean products with high-quality materials and brutal customization.

Until now, this brand sells:

  • PC cases, headphones, liquid cooling systems and fans, motherboards, chairs, mats, organizers, lighting kits, etc., power supplies.

Regarding its software, here are my conclusions:

PROS CONS
Good interface Somewhat messy fan speed setting
Information and extended monitoring Absence of more varied default profiles.
Huge freedom of configuration Resource consumption

To finish clarifying this little guide, I had to use another piece of equipment that did have NZXT components in order to fully assess the “power”, “cooling” and “lighting” sections. As "ecosystem software", we cannot have all its functions, unless we have brand components.

In short, we have enormous freedom of configuration, we can know any information about our PC and the interface is very clear. However, the configuration of the fans seems somewhat messy to me and I have missed more profiles created by default in the cooling section. I say this because there is only the silent profile and the performance profile .

In addition, it consumes more than 200 MB of RAM, which we do not like because an application of this type should not consume more than 100 MB at most.

So, if you have NZXT components, we recommend using this program to be able to control them much better and enjoy very interesting functions.

What do you think of this program? Do you use it? Do you have NZXT components?
