NZXT S340 Elite technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The NZXT S340 Elite comes to us with a typical presentation of its range of products, the box comes inside a large cardboard box in which we can appreciate the design of the chassis with many details.
The manufacturer has taken advantage of the different sides of the packaging (sides) to place the main specifications and characteristics of the chassis. Although on the front and front we have examples of assemblies.
We open the cardboard box and we find the chassis very well protected by corks and a plastic bag, NZXT has taken great care in this section so that the product reaches the hands of the final consumer in perfect condition.
In addition to the chassis we find all the accessories placed in a cardboard box placed in the hollow of the power supply, this includes all the screws necessary for the assembly of the equipment, plastic cable ties to hold the cables and an extension for the SATA cable of feeding.
NZXT S340 Elite takes virtual reality fans into consideration, for this it provides us with a second accessory box in which we find a magnetic holder (NZXT Punk) to hang our virtual reality glasses when we are not using it.
We are already focused on the NZXT S340 Elite chassis, it is an ATX semi-tower with dimensions of 474 x 203 x 432 mm together with a weight of 8.13 Kg, this last figure is quite high and gives us an idea of the quality of the materials used in the construction of the chassis.
The chassis is based on a very minimalist appearance as its front shows, even the 5.25-inch bay has been dispensed with, although this is increasingly common in favor of better cooling. In the lower area we find the logo of the brand that is responsible for breaking the possible excess of monotony in its design.
On the front panel we find all the connection ports and buttons, specifically we have 2 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port for virtual reality glasses, 3.5mm Jack connectors for audio and micro, the button for power and the power and hard drive LEDs. We also see a dust filter in the air inlet area to the fans to maintain a much cleaner flow and improve cooling. In this area we can mount up to two 120/140 mm fans or a 120/140/240/280 mm radiator.
NZXT S340 Elite is manufactured using a combination of SECC steel and ABS plastic, although the latter is reserved only inside the cover, hence the high weight of excellent quality steel. The manufacturer has included a large tempered glass window on the main side, something that is increasingly common and is not for less when all the internal components already offer a highly detailed aesthetic with RGB LED lighting included. This window is one of the few differences from the original model and we believe that its inclusion has been a success.
On the back of the chassis we see its 7 expansion slots, the grille for the 120mm fan (NZXT FN V2 included as standard) and the hole for the power supply at the bottom as it could not be otherwise. It is increasingly difficult to find a chassis with the source area at the top and it is totally logical since the bottom area is much better, with this we avoid eating all the heat generated by the other components.
In the upper area of the chassis we see another grille for the installation of a 120/140 mm fan, a NZXT FN V2 unit of 120 mm has also been included by default to guarantee a correct air flow as standard.
At the base of the NZXT S340 Elite we find four plastic legs finished in rubber to absorb vibrations, there is no lack of a dust filter for the power supply.
Interior and assembly
To access the interior of the NZXT S340 Elite we just have to remove both side panels. The first thing we see is the area for mounting the computer motherboard.
We will be able to place a unit with an ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX format so it will adjust to the needs of a large number of users. On the right side we see a flap that will help us to better organize the wiring and hide them as they pass to the rear of the chassis.
This chassis is compatible with CPU heatsinks of up to 161 mm and graphics cards of up to 364 mm, so it will not prevent us from assembling a very high performance system. We must bear in mind that if we install the front radiator the maximum length of the graphics card is reduced by 30 mm, even so, it will be compatible with almost all the models on the market.
On the front we see the fairing that will allow us to install a maximum of 3 2.5-inch hard drives, two of which will go on its surface and the third on the front. Storage options are completed with the ability to install up to two 3.5-inch drives on the left side and a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drive on the base.
About the fans we should not worry, since we have two 120 mm fans. Both extracting the hot air out, we miss one in the front (Wink, wink). Although if we have one at home or we buy, we can significantly improve the cooling.
Finally, you can see an assembly example. We would have liked to have made an assembly of X370 but we are renovating the components to this new platform and we are missing some parts? Although you can see how such a similar assembly can be with Z270.
Final words and conclusion about NZXT S340 Elite
The NZXT S340 Elite box can currently be found in four versions: black, white, black / red, black / blue and we do not know which one is prettier. It allows us to install motherboards with ATX, microATX and ITX format and high-end components.
For lovers of liquid cooling, we can use a double radiator on the front and a single rear. The tempered glass window makes the box win a lot and with its steel structure it earns many integers in person.
We recommend reading the best boxes on the market.
This Black / Red style blends very well with the Asus ROG series. If you are thinking of purchasing any of the Asus components, the combination is brutal.
The only downside we found is that it does not have one or two fans on the front. But it is quite rectifiable if we acquire, for example, liquid cooling such as the NZXT Kraken X52 that already incorporates them and is perfectly assembled.
Currently we find it in online stores about 95 to 100 euros. With everything it offers us, it seems to us one of the best options for this price range. Without a doubt, a 100% recommended option.
