Chinese motherboard vendors are widely known for creating unorthodox products. For example, Soyo released an H310C motherboard that supports up to four generations of Intel processors, or Huananzhi, which placed DDR3 and DDR4 slots on an X99 motherboard. The list of unconventional motherboards continues to expand with Onda B250 D32-D3 motherboards.

Onda B250 D32-D3 is a monster motherboard with 32 SATA ports

The Onda B250 D32-D3 measures 405.5 x 310.5mm and doesn't really meet any established form factor. The motherboard obviously has an Intel LGA 1151 socket, and is based on the Intel B250 chipset, so processor support is limited to the older Skylake and Kaby Lake chips. However, the B250 D32-D3 is not a normal motherboard. It does not draw power from a 24-pin power connector, but from what appears to be six 6-pin power connectors. The peculiarity of this motherboard is its large number of SATA ports.

Onda equipped the B250 D32-D3 with 32 SATA ports. Of course, to use all the ports, you have to make use of a third-party I / O controller, since the B250 chipset does not have enough bandwidth to be able to manage 32 storage units simultaneously.

Unfortunately, the motherboard vendor does not specify the make or model of the controller. But if you look closely at the motherboard, this controller would seem to be from Marvell.

Other than SATA ports, the other specs are pretty standard. The B250 D32-D3 has a single PCIe x1 slot and a USB 2.0 header. The rear panel contains two Ethernet ports, four USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, and one VGA connector. There is also a small button, the function of which is probably to reset the BIOS to factory settings.

Onda lists the IPFS B250 D32-D3 and B250 D32-D3 for 3, 299 yuan, which turns out to be about 424.20 euros. It is only available in Chinese territory and can hardly be obtained in other territories, unless we resort to stores such as AliExpress .
