Chinese manufacturers OnePlus and Meizu have been accused of tricking their terminals so that they can get higher scores on different benchmarks and thus put themselves ahead of their more direct rivals.

OnePlus and Meizu hunted by cheating

The trick of Meizu and OnePlus is to identify when a benchmark is running so that the processor can run at full power all the time, smartphones generally reduce their operating frequencies in these situations to avoid overheating and save battery power. This trick in question has been discovered by XDA-Developers when comparing the results of the Geekbench application in its normal version and a second version modified to not have the identifier that the smartphone recognizes.

The tricks have been discovered in the OnePlus 3T and the Meizu Pro 6, the variation of the results is 5%, which may seem little but it is enough for these terminals to be ahead of others like the Xiaomi Mi Mix that they are based on the same Snapdragon 821 processor.

OnePlus has already responded to say that it is a technique implemented to improve performance in games and be able to offer better benefits to the user. The Chinese company will disable this feature in a future software update.
