Opentomb or how to play tomb raider directly in your browser
How many of us have played the classic Tomb Raider 1 on Playstation? It was one of the first games to start the revolution of this console and of a new 3D genre that had previously not been seen. Why are you talking about this now? Basically because a project has been born: OpenTomb open source and that allows you to play this game from your smartphone or PC from your web browser.
The developers of this project said that they still had many games to go to web format such as the action and adventure titles starring Lara Croft (The archaeologist), this game was developed in 1996 by Core Design. Since the appearance of Lara Croft games, the saga has become one of the best-selling games for PC. Due to this success we have books and movies from the saga.
The creators of OpenTomb and its community attempted to make requests for Eidos (the Tomb Raider distributor) to allow them access to the original Tomb Raider source code. Unable to get it, a couple of developers started creating the game from scratch and natively adapting it to browsers.
All developers uploaded the source code to Github where they hope more developers will be encouraged to collaborate and grow the project. According to the OpenTomb developers FAQ, one of the reasons for doing this project is to be able to take advantage of the characteristics of modern CPUs and GPUs and that it becomes a multi-platform project, that is, that it can run on any platform just by having a browser.
This project is setting very high goals, we hope to see it complete someday. At the moment we can play at the level of the city of Vilcabamba. Among the game options we find that we can play with first or third person view, full screen and with the possibility of using a keyboard or controls.
