Some time ago, Sony confirmed the existence of the new Playstation 4 Neo console, a model with greater power and prepared for the Playstation VR virtual reality glasses. From the moment it was confirmed, there were a lot of rumors about the power, especially compared to the XBOX Scorpio that Microsoft plans to launch at the end of next year.

Playstation 4 Neo with 4 teraflops of power

Thanks to the leak of all the documentation of the development kits that are already in the hands of the different video game studios, it has been possible to verify that the rumors were true, the Playstation 4 Neo will have approximately 4 teraflops of power.

As can be seen in the comparative table below these lines, the GPU would have about 36 CU (compute units) with a new GCN architecture from AMD, the amount of teraflops would be 4 and even a little more reaching 4.4 teraflops. As the GPU in the Playstation 4 Neo will be a customized version, it has not been specifically detailed what it will be but due to the number of teraflops and computing units, we would be facing an R9 380X or RX 470.

Playstation 4 Neo Specifications

What is surprising is that it used the same AMD CPU based on the Jaguar architecture but with a frequency increase of 2.1GHz instead of 1.6GHz that the "normal" Playstation 4 has. The documentation also warns that the amount of memory available for games is increased to 5.5GB instead of 5GB, the rest is to handle the operating system.

Sony warns that the games must be developed in 1080p and not at 1440p resolutions since on 4K monitors the difference would be negligible (these are Sony's words), so there will be no difference in resolution compared to a normal Playstation 4, but surely in the graphic quality of the games, that is, better filters, effects, textures and a frame rate that could easily afford 60 frames per second.

Finally it is suggested that the Playstation 4 Neo will be released during October of this year, so the official announcement shouldn't be far off.
