Plextor announces high-end ssd m9pe

Plextor has announced its new generation of high-end SSD drives, called the M9Pe. The new unit will make use of 64-layer NAND 3D TLC memory manufactured by Toshiba and will feature a Marvell controller and configurations of up to 1TB. Plextor said he has plans to release the new unit for sale until the end of this year.

For the Plextor M9Pe, the manufacturer has chosen the Marvell 88SS1093 BTB2 controller as well as Toshiba's 512Gb BiCS 3D TLC NAND memory.

The 88SS1093 BTB2 controller is equipped with three cores and features 8 NAND channels with 4 CEs per channel. The PCB provides the third generation of Marvell's ECC technology based on an LDPC algorithm that makes use of a PCIe 3.0 x 4 interface. Essentially, the new chip is an updated version of the 88SS1093 with better performance and higher frequencies.

It is still an NVMe 1.1 board, so we still have to wait until we see the new features of the latest NVMe 1.3 standard. Meanwhile, Plextor promises flawless performance in multiple situations.

The company will offer its M9Pe drives in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB versions. Performance-wise, the M9Pe has sequential read speeds of 3, 100 MB / s and write speeds of 2, 300 MB / s, but the devices released for sale could perform slightly differently than the engineering samples the company is currently testing.

In terms of design, Plextor plans to offer the units in an M.2 format and with a radiator, although there will also be "add-in" units with a larger cooling system and RGB LEDs.

Plextor will release its new M9Pe SSDs for sale until the end of the year. Its price is very difficult to guess at the moment as it depends on multiple factors, including competitors, and the prices of NAND memories later.
