Since it was launched, Pokémon Go has relied on Google Maps for its operation. But, the Niantic game is surprising now by announcing that they will stop using Google Maps. From now on they are passed to other platforms such as OpenStreetMap. As a consequence of this change, players may notice glitches in Pokémon Go.

So it seems that there have not been or should be too sudden changes. This is certainly a very surprising decision, especially since there has always been a close relationship between Niantic and Google. In fact, Niantic was founded by Google.

At the moment neither of the two companies has spoken on the matter. Also, this decision of Pokémon Go is not understood, since they can use Google Maps at no cost. So it is not understood that they stop using the best maps that are available on the market.
