Online game streaming isn't exactly new, but when big players start investing, it can finally start to come true. Microsoft's Project xCloud is launching a broad network to include as many devices as possible. According to his statements at SDC 2018, it would include the line of Android-based Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy will be compatible with Microsoft's Project XCloud

If Microsoft intends to include all possible devices, it must include smartphones. And when it comes to these devices, Samsung still has the largest market share even though it is losing edge. So if Project xCloud is going to target the masses, the 2 billion players claimed by Samsung are probably Microsoft's best bet.

Of course, that mainly depends on how many of those gamers have high-end Galaxy phones, or what will be Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements to support streaming of xCloud games. It probably shouldn't be much, as Microsoft is trying to leverage its Azure cloud technology to do all the heavy lifting, while just transferring video and input between the phone and the server.

Microsoft says the games would work with direct touch input or connected Xbox controllers. That's not that difficult considering xCloud would include Xbox games instead of PC. Right now, Microsoft doesn't know how controllers connect to smartphones, but it's definitely an opportunity for Samsung to update and sell new versions of its Wireless GamePad controller.

Microsoft remains shy about when xCloud would be available to test, let alone Samsung Galaxy owners. What do you expect from this new project?
