QNAP, renowned brand of NAS products (Network Attached Storage) has announced that they will start supporting Plex in their new 64-bit ARMv8 NAS models.

Plex on the new QNAP NAS

The Taiwanese brand announcement applies to all NAS using the 64-bit ARMv8 platform, but especially for the models intended for this purpose: TS-128A, TS-228A and TS-328, focused on multimedia.

The interest behind this is in the wide possibilities offered by using a NAS with Plex, being able to store all kinds of multimedia content on the server and enjoy them comfortably on our TV or mobile device, since it acts as a "private cloud" to which We can access it from any device permanently.

In addition, the manufacturer indicates that Plex also helps us avoid incompatibilities with files thanks to the transcoding that the program does. This also matters when choosing the NAS, since the transcoding task falls on your processor. Hence his recommendation to buy a device with Intel Core i3 or higher processors to be able to view HD content with high bitrate.

All owners of these NAS can participate in the open beta by following this link. The Plex Media Server application (available in the NAS App Center) makes configuration very easy and supports streaming media files from the NAS to smartphones / tablets, other DLNA compliant devices, TV via streaming devices common like Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV…
