Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 processors, both aimed at mid-range devices but with more modern features compared to their predecessors. Below we reveal all its features and main novelties.

Snapdragon 660 and 630, two new platforms for mid-range smartphones

The first of them is the Snapdragon 660, which comes to replace the Snapdragon 653 and includes eight Kryo 260 cores that work at a maximum speed of 2.2GHz and provide 20% higher performance compared to the Snapdragon 653.

Likewise, the Snapdragon 660 also comes with an Adreno 512 GPU, which improves the performance of the Adreno 510 by 30%, as well as support for up to 8GB of RAM.

The Snapdragon 660 makes use of a 14nm FinFET process and features an LTE X12 modem with support for download speeds of 600Mbps. It also incorporates a Spectra 160 image signal processor with support for dual 16 MPx + 16 MPx cameras and 4K recording at 30 FPS.

Finally, Qualcomm's new 660 chip provides support for Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology, Bluetooth 5.0 and 2 x 2 Wi-Fi MIMO.

On the other hand, the new Snapdragon 630 comes to replace the Snapdragon 625/626 and includes many of the already mentioned features of the Snapdragon 660. Here we can mention the same X12 LTE modem, the 14nm FinFET process, Bluetooth 5.0, Quick Charge 4.0 and the ISP Spectra 160.

In addition, the SD 630 also comes with support for dual 13 MPx + 13 MPx cameras and features an 2.2GHz ARM Cortex-A53 eight-core processor and an Adreno 508 GPU, both with improved performance over its predecessors.

Finally, where the new Qualcomm processors really stand out is in the autonomy section, since the company ensures that users should see a reduction of between 50% and 75% in energy consumption by having geolocation services activated., while consumption with Wi-Fi active fell by up to 60% with the Snapdragon 660.

Qualcomm said the Snapdragon 660 is now available to manufacturers, while the Snapdragon 630 will begin shipping to manufacturers in late May.
