Qualcomm will be the first company to use wpa3 encryption features

The Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA3) wireless network security protocol has finally arrived 14 years after the arrival of the previous version WPA2. WPA3 comes to fix various flaws in the common security protocol used by most modern Wi-Fi devices, including computers, phones, routers, and IoT devices.

WPA3 will offer greater security

The Wi-Fi Alliance claims that billions of devices use WPA2, so any vulnerability is a big problem for all users. The last major flaw in the WPA2 protocol, KRACK, allows attackers to intercept passwords by breaking the WPA2 protocol by forcing reuse in the encryption algorithms used by Wi-Fi. Fortunately, the firmware updates were able to mitigate the KRACK exploit, but showed that more security was needed. The WPA3 standard has been working behind closed doors and promises to improve the WPA2 protocol with more security features.

Qualcomm Technologies plans to incorporate WPA3 security features in its chipsets this summer, for mobile devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, and in all Wi-Fi network infrastructure products. WPA3 encryption on the platform increases security protections even when users choose Wi-Fi passwords that do not meet common complexity recommendations. Its advanced security features are designed to allow consumers to use their smart phones to quickly configure their IoT devices to work on their home network.

Qualcomm is the first company to implement advanced WPA3 security features in solutions that will be implemented in late 2018 and early 2019. Eventually, all devices will support WPA3, and the user will be able to disable WPA2 connectivity, just as they probably already do with WPA and WEP devices on their router today.
