Qualcomm XR1 will help make virtual reality more accessible, all features
Some current Qualcomm processors, like the Snapdragon 835 and 845 have already been used in virtual reality headsets, the company itself says that the 845 is a more powerful chip than the XR1, and is still the best option for high-end devices, while the XR1 is focused on cheaper devices.

Devices with basic augmented reality only require a display screen to overlay information, this is the type of device with which the Qualcomm XR1 will work best, since the Snapdragon 845 consumes too much extra energy that theoretically is wasted. It can also be used on devices to watch 360-degree videos, rather than those that require full room-scale tracking.
The Qualcomm XR1 will only support three degrees of freedom, which means it can track the roll, tilt, and pitch of a user's head, but they won't be able to track it within 3D space, for that you'll need a Snapdragon 845 with support for six degrees of freedom. This XR1 chip can play 4K video at 60fps with voice control, it is also compatible with Qualcomm audio technologies like aptX.
Qualcomm has already partnered with Vive, Pico, Vuzix, and Meta, so it shouldn't be long before the new devices hit store shelves.
