In October we reported that AMD was planning to bring more features to Radeon Software in December, so December is here and with the impending launch of Radeon RX 5500XT cards we are running out of the year for those new drivers. Videocardz has reported on a new feature that will come with the drivers and that would be Radeon Boost. The label "Turbocharge Your Game" clearly means that there is a performance boost when using this setting, but what is it?

New Radeon Boost Feature Discovered in Upcoming AMD Adrenalin Drivers

Although it is not confirmed what this feature will do, Videocards speculates that Radeon Boost could be based on HiAlgo Boost, an algorithm that adjusts game resolution on the fly to reduce GPU load and, through an algorithm, increase the frame rate while the game camera is in motion and restores the full resolution when the camera stops. This could be combined with motion blur to mask the drop in resolution and keep the game running smoother. This is not a crazy scenario, knowing that AMD bought HiAlgo a few years ago.

There is another possibility, which would be similar to the ones that Sapphire implemented in its last iteration of its Trixx software with Trixx Boost. Trixx Boost uses two existing technologies, Radeon Image Sharpening in conjunction with Resolution Scaling. What it does is basically lower the resolution in the game, but it tries to regain some of the sharpness using RIS. This may sound like something AMD could have released earlier as a one-click solution to "boost" performance, but it would have been limited to the two available Navi graphics cards, but now that almost everything they have on the market today (except Vega 8 and 11) has RIS support, this could be the ideal time to implement it in your new controllers.

We will have to wait a few weeks for the release of the new Adrenalin controllers, but AMD promises more 'free' performance, so anything they implement will be worth it. We will keep you informed.
