Radeon rx 5700 xt with liquid cooling is it worth it?
Table of contents:
- RX 5700 XT with liquid cooling does not give the expected results
- Higher performance with in-stock cooling
RX 5700 XT has been released to the market as the most powerful Navi graphics card in the series. Even with that premise, AMD decided to launch a reference model with a single-turbine cooling system, which makes the graphics card work at quite high temperatures.
RX 5700 XT with liquid cooling does not give the expected results
The YouTube channel JayzTwoCents , has been one of the first to analyze the performance of the graphics card with a custom liquid cooling system, in this case, from Alphacool.
The graphics card with its stock cooling reaches 3945 points in 3DMark Time Spy with a frequency of 1932 MHz and 84 degrees of temperature.
Already with the new liquid cooling system, the first tests of JayzTwoCents mark about 3994 points in Time Spy with a peak frequency of 2007 MHz. The graphics card works at temperatures of just 41 degrees, over 40 degrees less than with the single turbine system.
It is the turn of Auto OC, one of the functions that we find in the Radeon controllers. At this point, the RX 5700 XT scores about 4, 164 points in Time Spy and the peak frequency was 2, 086 MHz. The temperature rose to 44 degrees. With manual overclock something else was obtained, about 4239.
Finally, in Auto Undervolt (Auto UV), you can see a graphical score in Time Spy of 4042 points.
Higher performance with in-stock cooling
The last test has a very revealing big plot-twist, the highest frequencies and, therefore, the highest score in Time Spy is obtained with the graphics card with the refrigeration in stock. About 4251 points in Time Spy and a peak frequency of 2102 MHz.
The conclusion we reached with this is that improving GPU temperatures with a liquid cooling system does not give more room (headroom) for overclocking, at least in the case of the RX 5700 XT. Therefore, we will not gain more performance with liquid cooling, but a cooler graphics card and probably less noise.
