It is no news that the AMD Radeon RX 570 graphics card is based on the same Polaris 20 silicon as the Radeon RX 580 version, something that AMD achieves by disabling 4 of the 36 computing units included in the silicon. AMD recently released a China-specific Radeon RX 580 with the Radeon RX 570 configuration, which confuses Chinese consumers. We now know that this China-specific Radeon RX 580 is based on the same exact silicon ASIC variant as the Radeon RX 570, with the only difference being Device ID.

The Radeon RX 580 with 2, 048 shaders from China is a Radeon RX 570 in every respect

A user noticed something interesting in his recent disassembly of a Dataland Radeon RX 580 graphics card with 2, 048 shaders, and imported directly from China. The ASIC subvariant code engraved on the GPU's aluminum reinforcement clamp matches that of the Radeon RX 570. AMD internally refers to the RX 570 as "Polaris 20 XL", and its engraved ASIC code is supposed to be "215-0910052". For the true RX 580, also known as "Polaris 20 XTX", the recorded code is "215-0910038".

Thanks to GamersNexus high-resolution recording, the ASIC code for “Polaris 20 XL” could be detected on the GPU of the Dataland card. This confirms that AMD simply took the Radeon RX 570 and gave them a different Device ID to create the Radeon RX 580 with 2, 048 shaders for the Chinese market.

This is undoubtedly for a marketing reason, as selling a Radeon RX 570 as a Radeon RX 580 makes it look like a better card than it actually is. What we don't understand is because it is assumed that Chinese buyers can be fooled more easily than the rest of the world.
