Razer lancehead wireless finally receives razer's best optical sensor

The great Razer Lancehead Wireless received a few weeks ago the hardware update it has been longing for.

Viewed in hindsight, the Razer Lancehead is a very special mouse, having always held the emerald brand 'ambidextrous mouse' position. However, we have to confess that its wireless version did not have the quality we expected from it, because its sensor was not as competent as we expected.

Razer Lancehead Wired

The latest generation Razer gaming mice mount what the brand calls 5G Advanced Optical Sensor . This was the case for the Lancehead Tournament Edition, but not in its wireless version. This is why the Razer Mamba Wireless has been a superior alternative to the Lancehead all along.

However, this has changed a few weeks ago when Razer announced that the Lancehead will carry the best sensor the brand has. As we have mentioned before, we believe that this sensor is an evolution of the PMW3389 sensor, but, due to the opacity of the company, we cannot know more about the characteristics of the component.

The Razer Lancehead Wireless has become an option to consider now that it has a next-generation sensor. In our Top 5 Razer Mice we did not add it, since the tracking quality was lower, but now we have no excuses.

What to expect from the new sensor?

The 'Advanced Optical Sensor 5G' is the most advanced component for mice that Razer has. As most important points, the Singaporean brand guarantees us a DPI of up to 16, 000 and a tracking capacity of 450 IPS ( Inches Per Second , in Spanish) with acceleration of up to 50G. These two features combined offer excellent mobility as well as tracking without pixel loss or inaccurate recalculations.

On the other hand, the mouse also features AFT (Adaptive Frequency Technology), with which Razer ensures perfect data transmission by changing the frequency channel whenever it encounters any interference in the medium.

This sensor is also mounted by the Deathadder Elite, Mamba Wireless, Lancehead Tournament Edition and Basilisk gaming mice, among others, so we can trust its precision and quality.

"Okay, very nice everything, but what can I expect from this new mouse?" You may be wondering.

Honestly, the only differential improvement is the one we have presented: the sensor. In all other areas, the Razer Lancehead Wireless is still the same gaming mouse with that ambidextrous construction so good that we have seen other times. Next we will remind you of the best points of the mouse.

The Razer Lancehead's wireless formula

It is true that in previous relaunches we have seen how the green brand added new features to mice like the Deathadder, but this case falls rather into the bag of updates. Not for nothing, nor do we have to be down. The Razer Lancehead, with its pluses and minuses, is an excellent mouse that we fully recommend.

Its sides with high quality rubber look great to us. They are generous in size and very soft to the touch. Also, although it may seem a little irrelevant, they are easy to clean, since after a few months of use it is common for dirt to accumulate. We also have the LED strips on both sides of the mouse, next to the logo and on the wheel, which greatly embellish the device. Everything is supported by Razer Chroma, so we can link our devices and make them shine in unison.

And as you can guess, the mouse reaches the classic threshold of 1000 Hz refresh rate, so it will work perfectly for demanding games. If you are not constantly playing competitive video games, we recommend reducing this refresh rate to further lengthen the mouse battery.

The mouse is built in an excellent ambidextrous body, so many people with different types of grip will like it. However, as we have already commented in other articles, we believe that ambidextrous mice may not adapt perfectly to any type of grip. It is a matter of taste.

Speaking of more important questions, Razer tells us that his mouse is capable of reaching 50 hours of autonomous use, but in the absence of specific information, we intuit that they refer to the lights off.

Conclusions and thoughts

In our Top 5 Razer mice we did not include the Razer Lancehead Wireless due to the inferiority of its sensor. Although it was not a bad component, being worse in something as relevant as the ability to track the environment, we could not face it with the other mastodons of the brand.

Now the playing field has changed and we are confident that this is one of the best wireless alternatives we have from the Emerald brand. The only downside we found is the price, which is slightly higher than we would like, especially when compared to wireless mice from the competition.

If you are looking for a high quality wireless mouse with elegant LED lighting, we highly recommend this Razer mouse. Among all the wireless contenders, we can say that this is the one that offers better quality lighting and more beautiful, too.

Stay tuned, as the updated version will not be available on Amazon for a few days. The easiest way to know if the mouse is the new version is to check if it reaches 450 IPS. If it only reaches 250, it is the version with the previous sensor.
