Table of contents:
On certain occasions, we have to reset our motherboard because we have modified some wrong value. We tell you its meaning.
Doing a reset can be considered by hitting the reset button on the PC case and thus restarting all our PC. Or reference is made to the motherboard and its BIOS settings . It is true that something restarts, but it is a concept that is closer, in my opinion, to formatting or resetting because the BIOS returns to its original state. We explain what it is and how you can do it.

What is reset?
The reset is an option that we have to return the configuration of our motherboard to its original state. For this reason, related concepts such as " Clear CMOS ", " load optimized defaults " or " factory reset " appear. At the end of the day, with those options we are resetting our motherboard to 0.
By the way, the button that we find on certain motherboards REBOOT the computer, and not the BIOS.
That is, with it we will not lose all the configurations that we have made in the BIOS of the motherboard. For that, we will have to press the Clear CMOS (the red of this image).
Why reset our board?
The objective of returning our motherboard to its origins can be very varied. Normally, when users seek to reset their board, it is because they have made a wrong adjustment that causes instability, the computer does not turn on or there is no incompatibility.
The reasons can be varied, but what is clear is that the same result is sought , either a Clear CMOS or a reset in the BIOS: restore the configuration.
What are the consequences of a reset?
By resetting our configuration we will lose everything we have done in our BIOS, such as:
- Overclocking. We know that it requires trial-error, which can mean investing hours of your time to find a stable configuration. Doing a reset is going to mean losing all that configuration, although you may remember all of it. Profiles can be stored on the current plates and thus not lose all this data. Boot priority. As we restore the factory settings, the boot will return to its origin, so we will have to configure it again. This is the minimum of our problems because it won't take us 1 minute to make it perfect again. Profiles. This can be a nuisance. Configuration profiles is an aspect that many users work to make everything tidy. With a simple Clear CMOS we are going to lose them all, which is similar to taking a drawer full of papers, throwing them on the floor and reordering the drawer of 0. Modifications made. A very important aspect is that of updates. When we return our BIOS to the same starting place, it is literal. In other words, we will lose all the BIOS modifications. The same thing happens when we make an update to a new BIOS version on our motherboard. This new BIOS comes from the factory. Date and time. It's silly, but the date and time will go wrong. Although this is not a problem, or anything like that. At the end of the day, the user cares about adjustments that affect their performance. If you have your PC connected to the internet, it will automatically adjust.
It's a good solution?
It is not that it is good or bad, it simply solves all problems at the root, but at what cost? It is clear that formatting the hard drive removes all possible viruses, but what about the data? What about our settings on Windows or Mac? In the end, the user does not measure the cost of all this, but prefers to solve the problem as soon as possible.
The good thing about the reset is that we are not going to delete much information, since we can leave our BIOS configured in a few minutes. It could be said that more than being good, it is ideal for cases where we have tried everything to fix the problems of the board.
