Resident evil 7 benchmark on pc

Table of contents:

Anonim

The guys at guru3D have laid their hands on Resident Evil 7 to test its performance on various graphics cards from different generations of AMD and Nvidia and to be able to analyze its optimization. Recall that the game includes support for 4K resolution and HDR technology.

Resident Evil 7 requirements

First of all let's review the minimum and recommended requirements of Resident Evil 7 on PC:

MINIMA

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 64-BIT Processor: Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or higher Memory: 8GB RAMGPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260xDirectX: Version 11

RECOMMENDED

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 64-BIT Processor: Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz or higher Memory: 8GB RAMGPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X or higher DirectX: Version 11

Test environment and graphic quality

The tests have been done with a computer based on a powerful Itel Core i7-5960X processor overclocked at 4.3 GHz to eliminate any possible GPU bottleneck. Updated Windows 10 has been used and all power saving options have been disabled for the motherboard and processor to ensure consistency of results. The drivers used have been the Nvidia GeForce 378.49 and AMD Radeon Crimson 17.1.1.

The list of graphics cards is as follows:

  • GeForce GTX 960 (2GB) Geforce GTX 1050 (2GB) Geforce GTX 1050 Ti (4GB) GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) GeForce GTX 1070GeForce GTX 1080GeForce GTX 980 TiGeForce Titan X (Maxwell) NVIDIA Titan X (Pascal) Radeon R9 390 (8GB) Radeon R9 390X (8GB) Radeon R9 FuryRadeon R9 Fury XRadeon R9 NanoRadeon RX 460 (4GB) Radeon RX 470 (4GB) Radeon RX 480 (8GB)

Finally let's see the graphic adjustments used in the tests (ultra).

Resident Evil 7 1080p Performance

The first test is at Full HD resolution and we see how the game requires at least a GeForce GTX 1060 or a Radeon R9 Fury Nano to reach 60 FPS on average. We appreciate that AMD hardware performs very well in this game with a Radeon RX 390X that is hot on the heels of the almighty GeForce GTX 1080. Something striking is that the Radeon Fury X lags behind other less powerful cards like the Radeon RX 470, it is quite clear that AMD has an important optimization job ahead

It stands out that the framerate is very variable with drops from 100 FPS to 40 FPS very sudden, something that denotes that the optimization of the game or the drivers is not as good as it should be.

Resident Evil 7 Performance at 1440p and 4K UHD

We increased the resolution to 1440p and 4K UHD to see how the AMD hardware is gaining integers against some Nvidia cards that withstand the rise in the level of demand worse. In 1440p the Radeon RX 390X already ranks as the second most powerful card only below the unreachable GeForce GTX Titan X Pascal. We also see how the GeForce GTX 1060 is surpassed even by the Radeon RX 470 in 1440p and by the Radeon RX 460 in 4K.

Resident Evil 7 Frametime

We continue with the analysis of the frametime on the GeForce GTX 1070 and the Radeon RX 480 and Fury X. As we can see how the first two offer very smooth operation while the third shows very large variations. This shows that the 4 GB of memory in Fiji silicon is insufficient, no matter how HBM it is, and it is an important drag on the most current games.

In the following image we can see again that the game needs more than 4 GB of video memory to function properly.

conclusion

Resident Evil 7 is a fairly demanding new PC game in which significant optimization work needs to be done to deliver a more stable framerate. Also Nvidia has to get the batteries to see how AMD wets his ear, especially in high resolutions, and that is a DirectX 11 game that in theory is more favorable for greens. Finally, we highlight that cards with 4 GB of VRAM or less are beginning to fall short of performance, especially those based on Fiji silicon that cannot show their full potential.
